A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Great Falls on Thursday, rattling residents across central Montana but causing minimal damage, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
A small earthquake shook parts of Hunterdon County and nearby counties in New Jersey on Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake, which occurred at 3:43 p.m., was felt by dozens of people in Hunterdon, Morris and Somerset counties, the USGS reported.
The earthquake, located 5.5 miles under the surface, was in the eastern part of the township near where the Cold Brook flows into the Lamington River. The tremor was centered about two miles southeast from the 4.8 earthquake on April 5, 2024 that shook Central Jersey.
Initial reports indicate that it registered as a 4.2 quake, and was centered about nine miles from Great Falls.
There was a magnitude 4.1 earthquake just north of Toronto, 120 miles north of Rochester. We saw reports that people felt it in Rochester.
There were 35 confirmed earthquakes in the Palmetto State in 2025, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
The quake happened at 12:41 p.m., and was centered about 4.9 miles northeast of Great Falls at a depth of about 13.6 miles.
